numb : banhod (adj.); naminhod (adj.); binhod (v.)

dissent : pagsupak (n.); supak (v.)

usahay makapangutana ko, naminhod na ba ang mga tawo aning nasura. grabe jud sa karenderya sa eskina ang usa ka kumkom nga kan-on nga tag-ocho pesos, dili jud na makabusog. Nga gani ako nakabentaha isip usa ka call boy (sa callcenter ba) unya nagdawatan pa jud ug foreign aid sa akong "other ATM" a.k.a "ay ta ma!". pero ngano jud nga hilabihan ko ka reklamador...why cant i just shut the fuck up and live like the rest of the living dead...hahay mangambisyon makatungtong ug amerika... magnar-es or di ba kaha mag-artista. naa ra jud anang duha. mao ra man nay gipangandoy sa kadaghanan. kevs to the fact nga mahal plite..mahal bugas...hasta ang burikat di na madala ug singko singko kay mahal na daw ang kape nga 3 in 1. adto nalang siguro ko sa manok.

one thing i realized while i was in the states was despite the fact that everyone lived relatively easy lives...or rather really good lives as compared the shit and piss we get from the measly skrills of our slavelike salaries in the fucking philippines... the american middle class still has one thing we filipino don't have much in practice: Dissent.

There's a saying that Americans are more honest than polite and Filipinos are more Polite than honest. Stop... think and let the pain bite through your whistling heads. It's sad that we've got almost none in the hand yet we don't give a shit while them americans got lots and yet when a quarter of a dollar of gas price increase and it's a hell break loose for a week with the local congressman. See i think we all know that for a real working democracy to work, you and i... and everyone has got to stop and think while the lady in the karenderya scoop the meager amounts of rice for a fucking 8 pesos. We the filipinos, the goddamn rice eaters...not potato eaters or bread hoarders can't even give shit why the very grain that has sustained our lovely nation is going up hay wire... for a working democracy to work, the people has got to be involved, redress doesn't come in a silver platter, it comes throughg blood and sweet of history...but all of us do the same thing again and again. like nothing happened. We are numb. Numb i guess from all that "lobo" stuff and judy ann santoses and pinoy big brothers and whatever social opium we rather indulge our whistling heads.

It pains me to think, that i've been judged as poor and poked fun by a co-worker just because i decided to not care with what i wear for work when in reality my financial terms would eat hers triple times that.

it pains me to think that a hospital nurse wouldn't treat you so well and be very nonchalant 'till she hears you complain in a totally american accent english without blinking staring at her eye like a good ol mensch for such a sloppy slow ass service while you slap her with that fact that i'll pay you whatever money to buy some good old health care service.

It pains me to think that when urging for dissent...my people responds with numbness. La la la la la.

finally some stolen moment...in SM, for a coupl'a xtra bucks i get to squeeze myself in a not so crowded  internet cafe. i so Fookin miss blogging like that. anywho i couldn't squeeze all my thoughts for the last 30 something days of my life. all i could say is that its a lot of work..tiring yes but satisfying. i've turned 3x darker than the orginal shade i was before i came back here in cebu. officially last july 1st, i was an islander.. i mean people in the island of cebu have the tenacity to call people in mactan island as islanders? hmmmm its projection i guess. but hell i care, i love my tiny island. everything is?...well almost everything i want is just right there. a respite from all the hustle and bustle of an overpolluted, overated and overpopulated metropolis in my very own vanishing "cielo del boca' (think 'y tu mama tambien' indie movie buffs). a tiny and very threathened haven in the tip of my commercialized and gentrified paradise.

as for work, i'm getting by, almost double productivity,. whatcha expect, i've been there, kissing and literally wipping white peoples ass. the pay's not that to whine about when all 'round me's just pay by the min....but it could be better. i'm not selfish, just full of "needs" bordering "wants".  anywho, love the colleagues slash friends. the camaraderie and that friendships just right the way i want it...and what is an arcy without organizing shit? a shitty arcy...but i guess its existentially essential for me to do something back...so yeah getting there. god i love to say "ha!" i defeated the big brother of this org shit. yay.

Blog EntryMy Liberal RantsJun 18, '08 3:50 AM
for everyone
There are many things that i wanted to see change, therefore i claim to remain an activist, even if no longer as by definition of the status quo left. Having been gone and back gave me the capacity to look introspectively on what makes us tick and not tick as a people. The level of our conservativeness utterly disgusts me as it hampers the growth of our nation. The Philippines is indeed one conservative hell hole, that is, foremost religiously conservative which seeps and interferes government decision making, overruling state policy and hijacking culture. Take for instance 5 issues that government has an awfully backward stance due to Catholic dogma/Christian monopoly on our culture - Abortion, Population Control, LGBT rights, Divorce and the Separation of Religion and State.

Among the five, I strongly believe that Population Control should be a top priority of the state. It's even outrageous to think that many activist of the left of center belie the urgency of overpopulation. What's more dumber to hear are the catholic and other christian fundamentalists quoting the bible, that god allegedly instructed man to populate the earth without limit...err something to that effect, hence control is against their moral bedrock, overriding reason and elementary mathematics of the malthusian limit. Immigration (or diaspora), Urban decay, Water Crisis, Food Crisis, Poor School Facilities and many other conditions of our pathetic third world are directly and indirectly testaments to the unabated growth of our population as it outpaces the actual capacity of society in producing goods and creating services. Yet looking introspectively is something Filipinos almost always never do, as we see problems exist externally and with that our tenacity to fault someone or something else. Inversely proportional to that is also our collective denial of individual accountability to the bigger picture. For example,  the current rice crisis in our country is due to many factors beyond the control of the individual. And yes true, such as government's irresponsibility and lack of foresight. However still, hypothetically a construction worker earns minimum wage (at Php5,000) and has 10 children to feed with a wife who washes clothes in daytime. The construction site's engineer on the other hand earns quadruple that and only has 2 children with a wife who probably works as a clerk. This disparity is undeniable existing yet we fail to see this as one of of the crux to our woes.

The other thing worthy of note is the state of Women's Rights and feminist attitude in our country. I can say that it is relatively more progressive compared to many Islamic countries and or Latin American countries even if machismo and male bravado is still the rule of thumb. But then again, because of our tight catholic upbringing and the "sanctity of life", our society has deprived women from their reproductive rights, specifically the right to Abortion and Divorce. Although I do believe that it should be strictly regulated and highly restricted to cases such as rape and or endangerment of a woman's life, the bottom line is that we have a long way to go in emancipating our attitudes with regards to women's rights.

The Catholic Church in the Philippines remains a reactionary and backward force to reckon with. The absence of Divorce and Gay Rights in this country also reflects the entertwining of  church and state. And unless the state can completely secularize herself and liberalize culture, we are basically choosing to be poor rather than immoral in the eyes of the pope.

The Do You Listen Or Just Hear Test

You scored  59% Listening, 36% Hearing

      Good listeners both share a bit of themselves, and engage their partner in conversation.  On first dates it's important to keep the conversation interactive and flowing.  Yes or no questions, or statements that shut your date down, are indications of hearing but not listening, as is the tendency to ask questions then quickly respond as if they had been asked to you, knowing what you're going to say before your date has stopped talking, and "one-up" stories ("Your dog went to the vet? My dog was once so sick he....").Choosing what and how to react to something is important for good listening.  Emotionally laden conversations about unresolved subjects are not good first-date-kick-offs, but everyone has a skeleton or seven in their closet.  A good listener will be able to discern whether the subject is too deep for a first date and guide the conversation onto solid ground.  On the other hand, skeletons can be fun, and even if the subject matter is a bit alien or shocking, a good listener can tell if it is safe, enjoying stories that offer glimpses into other worlds or experiences.

Blog Entryexactly 5 years ago.Jun 10, '08 10:01 AM

While i rode a jeep from shitty hall going to capitol, i wondered about the crazy fender bender when it was 12ish noon. Then as we slowly creep into the decrepit and decaying Colon street, the heart of downtown cebu, lo and and behold where the throngs of militants on the march. nostalgic but sad, i felt i met an ex-wife from a bad court battle. It all came back to me now when exactly 5 years ago, this day was when i officially became a bad ass radical in the city. i gave my dad's 38 caliber pistol away (and without him knowing) to wherever i thought it was more useful.

The rally back then was 5x bigger and way more fun with college activists running the show. There was more enthusiasm and optimism that whatever we where fighting for was the "it". So I finally met them in capitol by the end of the march, and i went to greet some old faces and shared some cigs. There was nothing political in our exchanges, or even with the "lords" didn't even bother to talk anything about the current issues. We must have shared the mutual feeling that this has been so 5 years ago for us. I guess the truth will always be there, but real as it is, we all are humans and we do tire and feel burnt out. So ask ourselves: when can this be really over? I dunno for them, but personally the shelf life of this brand of radicalism has long been expired for many of us who now drink to reminisce these priceless nostalgia.

Dear Mr. Mike Hunt,

the eclectic should never be commercial rather anarchistic and free spirited. It mustn't be tagged and be branded expensive. it must remain illusive, underground and rebellious, to be frowned by the conservatives, the pious and the self righteous, whilst embraced by the libertarians, celebrated by the freaks, a bob dylan's shelter from the storm. It must be revolutionary yet selfish, liberating but self consuming, Indulging yet disgusting.

Today i wished.. i was invisible and look at people as they do about their tiny things in life: walking, chatting, laughing, behaving and misbehaving. I wish I had the courage with a video cam and film the random routine-ness of people's lives. I wish I can play the songs in my head out and loud for people to hear. I wish I took to the mirror and a clipper to have a mohawk. I wish i don't have to unbutton my pants after a big meal. i wish they give me more pancakes and a jug of syrup and butter. I wish my coffee isn't nescafe. I wish i stop yosi. I wish there were less koreans in the city, I wish I was the only kid, I wish i come out clean on my urine analysis this wednesday, I wish I don't have to carry tiny things around me such as cellphones, wallets, car keys and whatnot.

Drama Must Die.

some people look for drama to feel alive. if people are wired like robots, everyday we would do the same things over and over again and could care less. but nooo, a lot will seek unnecessary drama and emo action so that they have something to rant about in the blogs, something to talk to their posse and an excuse to drown booze by the weekend - ultimately it makes them feel alive and important. Also, some people take too much photos of themselves as they show and tell: "look at me, i'm hot, indulge me". While others are innocently are just into themselves, posting pics of their pretty adobe edited faces with expensive clothing and digital cameras. Also, nice beaches + nice good looking friends, preferably with less clothing = cam-whores priceless moment.

Cebu is romantic=?

tangled electric wires hang loose around claustrophobic smokey hazy dusty potholed streets with stagnated ditches wafting a smorgasbord of smells to the one who dare walk the virtually nonexistent sidewalks clogged of shirtless unemployed bulked bums and grimy homeless hobos smoking and chatting with hustlers selling anything from single yosi sticks to green mangoes every 3 meters of so. There's Bootlegged dvds, Cd's, t-shirts and heaps of old who-knows-from-where ukay2x clothing shops. People wear flip-flops and t-shirts while in ayala and/or I.T. park, you can actually find someone wearing a parka or a windbreaker.

The shinier the better, the more western the hotter.

when people would rather die for the newest cell phone model than demand their employers for better health care, there's something wrong with us. all these phone craze for the stylus, touch screen pads, pda's, audio's / video's, built in t.v.'s. and the general penchant taste for the nouveau is exceedingly decadent beyond our actual capacity. Like men with small penises who drive hummers and large pick-ups, this is our way to compensate the fact that our society is a light year behind western technology.

why does my cousin and uncle go  crazy with the latest NBA game? How does a game between two american states translate to entertainment for these Asians halfway around the world? Do they self identify with any of the teams playing? And why?

the dreadful reality creeps in slowly as the days pass. my armor and first line of defense - will and steadfastness is being tested. Just as my health is being battered by the elements of the third world: pollution, allergens, humidity and unbearable heat, so does my life's compass is being swayed to deriliction by backward elements of Philippine society. I would love to shit and puke everytime i flinch on how things work in my land of birth. It is inevitable that i end up self examining ourselves as a people when coming from a society that has worked well in many ways but utterly fail in our case. The slower pace of time, the satisfaction for the 2nd rate and mediocrity, and most especially the obsession of our people to technicalities and missing out the essence of things. I could care less and forgive ourselves easy, however one thing i can never forgive is how we refuse to reinvent our collective attitudes and worse defend and be complacent to these realities that most of us are self aware. We need aggression as a people, we badly need frankness and blunt no nonsense bullshit talk instead of our allegedly famous docility and hospitality. we need less of sensitivity and more of straight talk and nothing is personal attitude.

It is ingrained in pinoy society to avoid confrontation as much as possible, even if contradictions are brewing right to the rim, we always smile and say 'its ok' is just idiotic and then back stab on the side as a payback. nothing personal in my case but a general observation on how contradictions always play out in our society. No one can take their word for it as body language probably speaks more than what people actually say.

i would love to pay someone to stand and listen as i'd blurt out my irritation in tourette's mode.

after i shit and puke of a bad morning hangover, it's all coming back to me now. how everything felt so 2nd rate or worse with the bars here not getting your drinks right. hey i've earned the right to be obnoxious since it costs a fortune to drink like snazzy, so here's my bartender's litanny of diss:

1. they had a bottle labelled "martini", how on the earth do you bottle a martini drink?

2. people mispronouncing words and them skanks hating you for correcting them: it's "kyoo-rah-saw" not "kuh-rah-kaw" damn it.

3. Blue Hawaiian is a collins glass drink not a martini drink and most importantly... it doesn't have cream on it.

4. rum and coke is called a 'cuba libre' if you put lime garnish on the highball glass.

5. a zombie is always laced with bacardi 151.5 proof. if its not, it's gonna defeat the whole purpose of the drink - to make you a zombie by the end of the night.

6. rock salt is too big, iodized is too small and tastes too salty, kosher is just right...but please i dont want it inside but outside of the rim for my margarita.

7. why do you serve cordials alone?

8. my long island reeks of tanduay.

9. if you know long island ice tea, you should at least know 4 other popular variants...but no, not even 1.

10. there is no such thing as a philippine brand tequila...as it's only made in tequila region (Jalisco and Guanajuato), mexico...everywhere else, it's called a 'mezcal'.

11. nobody ever sells vermouth...no wonder they have bottled martinis.

12. no one "eyeballs" the liquor measurements, everyone uses that ounce measuring tin... like 5th graders.

13. no one uses a bottle spout.

14. many bars don't have cream drinks.

15. no one has ever made me a mojito.

16. no one 'shakes' with a tin and glass.

17. no one has ever made me a drink in less than a minute.

18. theres no cranberry juice anywhere.

19. the bartender, waitress and the manager debating for 10 minutes on how to charge me with the drink i suggested... my recipe and all.

20. the motherf..... puts 3 ice cubes on my blue mother fucker.

and lastly...

21. hearing people swear that red horse beer is the best tasting beer in the world. suck it b*tches, its not.

Thanks to my geneologist friend, i have discovered the 7 generations of the Chavez family in the old Spanish pueblo of Argao in southern Cebu. Fortunately, even with the 2nd world war, the town of Argao retained most of her church records and other official spanish documents. The Chavez family is one among the 200 hereditary principalia families (e.g. Davide's, Quintanar's, Flores', Villamor's) among the 4,000 recorded family names in Argao.

Recently my geneologist friend came back from his research in the historical archives of Manila and found the signature of my great-great-great grand father Don Victoriano Chavez. I am astounded.

we the men and women in their 20ish and then some are just too obsessed with dramas and adventures in life. we try to cram our nights with endless 'inumans', go to poster perfect places and camwhore till the batteries run out... and especially go over needless drama so that we can feel existentially relevant. but but but...

i strive to be the apple among the oranges and i'm gonna flaunt it just like that. and so a blink second ago i happened to find an old marvin gaye cd (care of yansi's stuff)... yes, motown never gets old, so damn you mister gaye, damn you! anyway i took it in, all giddy and itching to hear the first song play... and just like that, there he was. i lay down in a filipino sized couch, where my knees and downwards dangle over the stupid zine rack. i didn't give a fuck about anything and i enjoyed that moment... The moment, my moment.

i think for sanity's sake, we all ought to have more moments like this. when we're having 2 week's worth of laundry stacked in a corner of your room, but you tell yourself don't you dare move a finger, don't you dare think about anything...not even how the ducks in the park pond are doing. just be as empty and lull for mr. gaye. these are the times where we can really be happy... because i'ts genuinely selfish and you can't just be bothered. G.O.D. i could make love to the whole equation, for the ambience and for these deliciously selfish moment.

FOURTEENTH CONGRESS OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES
First Regular Session

SENATE

JOINT RESOLUTION NO.10

Introduced by

SENATOR AQUILINO Q. PIMENTEL, JR.,

JOINT RESOLUTION TO CONVENE THE CONGRESS INTO A CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVISING THE CONSTITUTION TO ESTABLISH A FEDERAL SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Whereas, the Constitution provides for a unitary system of government where the country's development programs are centrally determined, planned, funded and implemented by the national government in Manila;

Whereas, the concentration of such enormous powers in Manila has created only one center of finance and development in the country resulting in a highly centralized system of government;

Whereas, the highly centralized system of government has brought about a spotty development of the nation where preferential treatment has been given to localities whose officials are friendly with or have easy access to an incumbent administration;

Whereas, this lopsided arrangement has spawned a host of problems including massive nationwide poverty to runaway insurgencies and rebellions that feed on the societal inequalities in the nation;

Whereas, creating eleven States out of the Republic would establish 11 centers of finance and development in the archipelago as follows:

1. The State of Northern Luzon;
2. The State of Central Luzon;
3. The State of Southern Tagalog;
4. The State of Bicol;
5. The State of Minparom;
6. The State of Eastern Visayas;
7. The State of Central Visayas;
8. The State of Western Visayas;
9. The State of Northern Mindanao;
10. The State of Southern Mindanao; and
11. The State of BangsaMoro

in addition to the country's only one center of finance and development in Metro-Manila which shall be constituted as the Federal Administrative Region;
>
> Whereas, the federalization of the Republic would speed up the development of the entire nation and help dissipate the causes of the insurgency throughout the land, particularly, the centuries-old Moro rebellions;
>
> Whereas, the shift from the unitary system of government to the federal system requires revising the Constitution;
>
> Whereas, the revision of the Constitution to establish a federal system of government may be done in either of three ways: Constitutional Convention, Constituent Assembly or by
Popular Initiative, and

> Whereas, considering all circumstances, it may be most expedient to revise the Constitution through a Constituent Assembly;

NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved as it is hereby resolved by the Senate with the House of Representatives concurring, upon a vote of three-fourths of all the Members of both Houses voting separately, to convene Congress into a constituent assembly pursuant to Section 1, paragraph 1 of Article XVII of the Constitution, and revise the Constitution for the purpose of adopting a federal system of government that will create 11 States, constitute Metro-Manila as the Federal Administrative Region, and convert the nation into the Federal Republic of the Philippines.

ARTICLE I

NATIONAL TERRITORY

Revision No. 1.

Section 1. Article I. National Territory.

The scope of the national territory is hereby revised by adding a new paragraph as follows:

The national territory shall likewise include all islands occupied or claimed by the Republic out of historic title, by discovery or other means recognized under international law and its exclusive economic zone as defined by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Revision No. 2.

Section 2. Article I. The Federal Republic and the States.

(A) The Republic of the Philippines is hereby converted into and renamed as the Federal Republic of the Philippines.

(B) The Federal Republic shall be composed of the following eleven (11) States:

1. The State of Northern Luzon;
2. The State of Central Luzon;
3. The State of Southern Tagalog;
4. The State of Bicol;
5. The State of Minparom;
6. The State of Eastern Visayas;
7. The State of Central Visayas;
8. The State of Western Visayas;
9. The State of Northern Mindanao;
10. The State of Southern Mindanao, and
11. The State of BangsaMoro;

in addition to

Metro-Manila that is hereby connected into the Federal Administrative Region.

Revision No. 3

Section 3. Article I. Composition of the States.

(A) The State of Northern Luzon.

The State of Northern Luzon shall comprise the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province, and all the cities, municipalities and barangays therein. Until provided otherwise by the State Legislature, Tuguegarao City shall be the capital of the State.

(B) The State of Central Luzon.

The State of Central Luzon shall comprise the provinces of Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales, and all the cities, municipalities and barangays therein. Until provided otherwise by the State Legislature, Tarlac City shall be the capital of the State.

(C) The State of Southern Tagalog.

So i read the latest ILPS statement on Tibet, written by none other than the dearest Chairman himself, Joma Sison. As a "deactivated" activist who used to be so gung-ho with ND organizations, i'm so appalled how off his analysis is.

The first line goes like this: The movement represented by the Dalai Lama is utterly reactionary... (read further here). Reaction is supposed to be the opposite of Revolution, and China is anything but revolutionary. I'm surprised how this senile schmuck could've been so off lately, hmm i guess dozing off a lot these days have eaten his maoist magic away. fortunately i'm not alone for i found this blog (writen by someone still active on the radical left of center) who's bright enough not to drink the koolaid. So I wish upon the red star that pinoy activists who believe the BS faster than China could say to the Dalai Lama: All your dreams are dead, would consider. After all, the movement is not a cult, it's a movement...or is it??? tantadada!

for culture, language and religion, still is a struggle.

Free Tibet!

i never felt more gloomier than yesterday, and if it's as if things weren't worse enough, the weather had conspired as it rained all thoughout the day. the kind of annoying stop and go rain, whether to take your umbrella or not and end up looking silly with it, while most people are or aren't using it, you try to weigh things up. just effin' great! both my calves (or as what cebuanos love to say with a heavy glottap stop 'bagtak') where such in a sorry state condition. pain in the ass was also the adhd meets sexist humourist mixology instructor, or maybe was it really him or the 2 cups of coffee, a double shot espresso and countless roll your own cigs in a gloomy day in the city? i can definitely use the dirtiest martini around.
