Thanks to my geneologist friend, i have discovered the 7 generations of the Chavez family in the old Spanish pueblo of Argao in southern Cebu. Fortunately, even with the 2nd world war, the town of Argao retained most of her church records and other official spanish documents. The Chavez family is one among the 200 hereditary principalia families (e.g. Davide's, Quintanar's, Flores', Villamor's) among the 4,000 recorded family names in Argao.

Recently my geneologist friend came back from his research in the historical archives of Manila and found the signature of my great-great-great grand father Don Victoriano Chavez. I am astounded.

for everyone
Someone told me im Chinese because of my last name: Yuson. I never gave a thought about that or even what my last name acually means, until i did some research. Filipino last names of Chinese origin, are always made up of two or more traditional Chinese names compounded like Tantiangco, Cojuangco, Sison, etc. The last syllable "son" is very common among compound Filipino Chinese last names. This means my family name is made up of 2 originally separate last names, Yu + son. But theres actually no "son" but rather a "sun", the former being the hispanized transliteration of the Chinese orginal.

(), can mean:  extra; surplus; remaining; after; I; me; my

and

(Sūn)can mean: grandchild, descendant; surname

Hmmm... does this mean im an "extra grandchild"? or "surplus descendant"? eh!?
Or maybe it could mean "My Surname" "My Grandchild/ Descendant"?
